Borneo Island Exotic Paradise

Borneo is the third largest island in the world and is divided between Indonesia, Malaysia and Brunei. Kalimantan is an Indonesian territory and makes up for the 2/3rd part of this island. Borneo is well-known for its' tropical forests, rich biodiversity, a variety of animals and friendly people.

Kalimantan offers a universe of its' own, quite unlikely to any other region in the world. Kalimantan was originally inhabited by Datuks but now it is a home to 10 million people, with a variety of culture. Borneo/Kalimantan is the huge adventure travel destination. It is the world's third largest island covering the area of 747,000 square kilometer and covered by one of the world's largest stretches of tropical rain forest through which flow tremendous mighty rivers which are the island's highway.

Kalimantan can be divided into four parts: East Kalimantan, West Kalimantan, South and Central Kalimantan. East Kalimantan is an industrially advanced area because it is the major producer of oil and timber, and the second largest province of Indonesia. Basically 80 percent of this region is covered by forests. South Kalimantan is mostly covered with mountains and dense tropical forests. Due to the presence of wide variety of trees, this province is one of the largest wood producers in Indonesia.

Central Kalimantan is the largest province of this island and covers an area of 153,800 kms. It is covered with many crisscrossing rivers and dense tropical forests. West Kalimantan, also known as the "land of equator", covers an area of 146,807 kms. It has been given this name because its' capital, Pontianak lies exactly on the equator. The province has swampy low plains consisting of many lakes, rivers and villages.

You can find a lot of adventure in tropical forests and enjoy the sights of some rare species of plants and animals. All in all Borneo is a wonderful place to visit. I am sure that if you visit this place once, you will come back wanting for more!
